Happy birthday, Louise Olivereau (April 9, 1884 – March 11, 1963)!‪#‎Pacifist‬. ‪#‎Anarchist‬. Anti-war activist. Poet. In 1915 she was employed in the offices of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) in Seattle, Washington. In 1917, shortly after the U.S. entered the World War, Louise was arrested for mailing circulars that encouraged young men to become conscientious objectors. She was indicted on three counts of violation of the Espionage Act. Sentenced to 10 years, she served 28 months in the state penitentiary in Canon City, Colorado. During her trial, Louise described the U.S. government as an apparatus to protect the property of the rich. After her release, she worked a series of clerical and sales jobs in Oregon and California.
