Happy birthday, Elizabeth Margaret Chandler (Dec. 24, 1807 – Nov. 2, 1834)! #Quaker. #Pacifist. #Abolitionist. Poet. In 1830 she moved with her aunt and brother to Michigan territory. In 1832 she collaborated with her friend and neighbor, Laura Smith Haviland, to form the Logan Female Anti-Slavery Society. This organization, the first anti-slavery group in Michigan, became a major link on the Underground Railroad for fugitive slaves on their way to Canada. Born in Delaware. Died in Michigan, shortly before her 27th birthday. Buried in the Chandler Family Cemetery, Lenawee County, Michigan.
