New York March for Immigrant Rights!

After the election of Donald Trump the immigrants organization in NYC organized a March on December 18 from 48th Street btw 1st and 2nd Avenue (Dag Hammarskjold Plaza) to Trump Tower in Manhattan. Trump’s election has cast a pall over immigrant communities across the United States, as they face the reality of a president who has promised to build a wall along the border with Mexico, deport millions of undocumented immigrants, and ban Muslims from entering the country.

The call from the organizers of the March:

  • Defend the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provides 50,000 New Yorkers work permits and other essential resources
  • Protect immigrant communities from deportation
  • Prevent the creation of a Muslim registry
  • Support refugee resettlement

Steven Choi, the executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, which organized the rally, said the city and country have benefited from the hard work of its immigrant population.
We are better because of our immigrant communities and we are here to send this message,” he said.
