Quaccheri cristiani ecumenici per fare il bene

Happy birthday, Jo Ann Robinson (April 17, 1912 – Aug. 29, 1992)! Civil rights activist. English professor. Credited with initiating the Montgomery bus boycott. In December 1955, after Rosa Parks was arrested, Jo Ann took it upon herself to mimeograph more than 50,000 handbills calling for a boycott of the Montgomery bus system. The idea was picked up by local African-American clergy, and the Montgomery Improvement Association was born, with Martin Luther King, Jr., as president. Author of “The Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Women Who Started It” (University of Tennessee Press, 1987).
