Happy birthday, Anna Rochester (March 30, 1880 – May 11, 1966)!‪#‎Pacifist‬. ‪#‎Feminist‬. ‪#‎Communist‬. Marxist historian. Labor reformer. Advocate for the rights of children. Advocate for the rights of working-class women. In 1920 Anna lived in a communal household in New York City with five other women. One of these women was Grace Hutchins. After the group house disbanded, Anna and Grace moved in together and remained in a relationship lasting 45 years. (In the photo, Grace is on the left, Anna on the right.) Anna was editor of the pacifist magazine “The World Tomorrow” (founded by the Fellowship of Reconciliation) from 1922 to 1926. Author of many works on the history of the working class and capitalism in the United States. Buried in Brookside Cemetery, Englewood, New Jersey.
