Quaccheri cristiani ecumenici per fare il bene

Happy birthday, Wally Nelson (March 27, 1909 – May 23, 2002)! ‪#‎Pacifist‬. Civil rights activist. War tax resister. Advocate for simple lifestyle. Conscientious objector during World War II. Did three years in prison after walking out of a CPS camp (he called it “civilian public slavery”), because he didn’t want to cooperate with the war machine even at that level. Participated in the 1947 Journey of Reconciliation (the original “freedom rides”). First national field organizer for CORE (Congress of Racial Equality). Wally and his wife, Juanita, learned to live on $5,000/year, both as a way of simplifying their lives, and also to keep as much money away from Uncle Sam (and the Pentagon) as possible. Died at the age of 93.
