On this date in 1635 (Dec. 24th), Hester Jonas was beheaded in ‪#‎Neuss‬, Germany, accused of being a witch. She was in her sixties. After 10 hours of torture (strapped naked to a spike-studded chair), she confessed to fornicating in a turnip field with a black man named Hans Beelzebub who gave her magical powers. After the execution, her corpse was burned and the ashes scattered to the winds. Her husband received an executioner’s bill for 65 Thalers.
