Owner/editor of “The Colored American,” a weekly newspaper promoting the welfare of “free colored people and the peaceful emancipation of slaves.” Supporter of the temperance movement. Co-founder of the Society for Promotion of Education Among Colored Children. Member of the American Anti-Slavery Society. Buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York.
