On this date in 1761 (Dec. 14th), Mayan revolutionary Jacinto Canek was executed by being torn apart limb from limb in the main square of #Merida, Yucatan peninsula. His remains were then burned and the ashes scattered to the wind. For a few short weeks he had been the charismatic leader of an uprising of the #Mayan people against the Spanish authorities.
