On this date in 1796 (Dec. 10th), Jose Leonardo Chirino was hanged in #Caracas, Venezuela, for leading a slave revolt amongst sugar plantation workers. After the execution, the Spanish authorities had his corpse dismembered, with his head placed in an iron cage for public display. The city square in Caracas where Chirino was executed is now named Plaza Bolivar, after Venezuelan liberator Simon Bolivar.
