Happy birthday, Lewis Hayden (Dec. 2, 1811 – April 7, 1889)! ‪#‎Abolitionist‬. Born into slavery in Kentucky. His first owner was a Presbyterian minister. Lewis and his family escaped to the north, eventually settling in Boston. The house he shared with his wife, Harriet, at 66 Phillips Street, became a station on the Underground Railroad. Lecturer for the American Anti-Slavery Society. Elected to the Massachusetts state legislature in 1873. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Massachusetts.
